Yoga Challenge Poses for Two People

Yoga challenge is meant to push the boundaries, both emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

Yoga is a form of exercise that not only helps in stretching your muscles but also helps by relaxing and de-stressing your mind and body.

We all know that yoga is performed solo traditionally, but if you want some change in your yoga practice, or if you want to try something new, get yourself a partner and challenge them to perform yoga poses with you.

Performing yoga with a partner keeps you both motivated and helps in building a stronger connection with your friend or significant other.

Yoga Challenge poses that involves two people is a complete fun-loving activity that nurtures trust and creates a sense of cheerfulness.

If you have gone through one of our previous blog posts where we listed some of the beginner yoga poses for two people and are looking for some more challenging poses then you have come to the right place.

It is important to note that these poses demand more flexibility and strength so work on them as far as you are comfortable.

Do not simply force yourself into a pose and if you experience any inconvenience seek professional help. 

Below are some yoga postures that will keep the fire in you burning and connects your energy with the other person involved:

Double-Dance Pose

The double-dance pose is a great pose, to begin with. This pose promotes flexibility and stretches your abs, gluts, quads, and hamstrings. It works on almost all the major muscles of your body.

How to Perform:

Both begin the pose by standing mat distance apart and facing each other for better ballance. Both the partners raise their right arms over their heads and lean forward to let the palms meet in the middle.

Now lift your left leg behind your back and hold the ankle with your left arm. Hold this pose for a few breaths, release and repeat with your right leg.  

Partner Plank

The partner plank poses also known as the stacked plank, requires you to be strong at your core and with the appropriate technique you will be able to perform it smoothly and will get a hold on it easily. 

How to perform:

Begin the pose by getting into a plank position with your feet hip-width apart and your wrists under your shoulders. Your partner i.e the flyer will get on top of you to get into plank pose by holding your shin and resting their feet on your shoulders. Engage your core muscles, hold for a while and then switch positions.

Downward Facing Dog – L Shaped Handstand

For those who are a bit more advanced try this challenging pose which is a combination of two different yoga poses. This pose will give your back a good stretch and will help in strengthening your shoulders. 

How to Perform:

Lay flat on the ground. Begin the pose by pushing your body up into a downward dog pose with palms and feet flat on the ground. Keep your knees straight and lengthen your spine.

Your partner begins the pose by standing in front of you in a forward fold position with their palms in front of yours.

Your partner then firmly presses the base of their hands on the floor to slowly lifts the legs off the ground and places their feet on your sacrum to perform an L-shaped handstand. Both hold the pose for 5-7 breaths and then switch the positions. 

Cobra-Chair Pose

This is again a combination of two different yoga poses. The cobra pose will help increase the spine’s flexibility and gives your chest a good stretch. Whereas the chair pose strengthens your hips and tones your leg muscles. 

How to Perform:

You begin this pose by lying flat on your stomach and your partner standing with their feet outside your knees. Begin to arch your back and lift your head and shoulders.

Extend your arms behind your back facing outwards. Your partner then takes hold of your hands and begins to squat to get into the chair pose. Hold the pose for a few breaths and repeat the pose after swapping the positions. 

Practicing yoga poses with a partner can be an amazing transformative experience. There are a host of yoga poses from beginner and intermediate to advanced level ones that two people can work on based on their strengths and weaknesses.
