What is Yin Yoga?

At Shree Hari Yoga School, we are dedicated to the practice of yoga, with complete devotion. If you want to deepen your knowledge of Yin Yoga, you should enroll for the course at the school, for an immersive experience. Yin Yoga is one of the myriad yoga forms, that you may come across today. It involves directing the energies to the deepest layers of the tissues, for a transformative experience.

It works on a deeper level, as the poses are held for a longer duration. The connective tissues are positively affected owing to the tenacity of the poses. Yin Yoga is also responsible for the enhancement of the flow of Chi or Qi through the organs. You will also benefit immensely from the yoga form, in terms of mental and emotional health.

What will you learn in Yin Yoga?

Just like Yin flow, you will recite the mantras with calm demeanor, so that the body can soak up the goodness. They can also relax you, which is absolutely necessary, if you have to hold the poses for a long time.

Art of Teaching

Yin Yoga is more like a moving meditation, so the approach towards its teaching is entirely different. At Shree Hari Yoga School, the teacher will guide you through a series of seated poses, on the floor. The passive nature of the poses, will allow the deep tissues to release much of the tension. Depending on the level of dexterity, you will hold the poses for 5 minutes or sometimes longer. As you navigate through the poses, the teacher explains the meridian lines that get affected, along with the physiology and anatomy of the poses.

Anatomy and Physiology

Additionally, our learned experts will also tell you about the functional anatomy, physiology, and benefits of the practices. You stand to get a deep insight on fascia, which assumes a lot of importance in the realm of Yin Yoga.

Philosophy

Yin Yoga is based on the Taoist and Daoist concept of Yin and Yang energies. The forces are female and male in form, according to Chinese principles of energy. It is hailed as a powerful meditative practice, which requires one to concentrate on the lower body. The stillness of the process can transform both the mind and body, in totality.

Five Element Theory

According to Chinese philosophy, natural occurrence can be classified into five elements. They are metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. Each organ is connected with one element. According to the Tao and Dao concept, you can effectively treat an ailment, at a fixed time or season, that governs that organ or body part. Breathwork-based yin poses can also help in the utilization of the five elements and their related cycles. Such seasonal, diurnal, and organ specific poses assist in the relaxation and rejuvenation of the body.

Sound Healing

Yin Yoga requires some deep stretches, through which much of the internal tension gets released. Additionally, sound waves have the power to release the tension in the brain cells. At Shree Hari Yoga School, you will get to experience the power of both. The sounds create subtle energies that calm the mind, so that you can navigate into the deeply relaxing postures, that Yin Yoga is all about. It leads to a transformative and balanced state of mind, as well.

Shatkarma (Cleansing)

Shatkarma kriyas are also effective in freeing up the body of its toxins. When the internal channels are pure, the ‘Prana’, ‘Qi’ or ‘Chi’, whatever you choose to call it, starts flowing freely. The 100 Hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training Course will help you to attain the heavenly status, through the tutelage of learned experts.

Mudra

You can practice mudras at any point, throughout the Yin Yoga class. When you practice the postures, most of you either clasp the hands together or grasp the feet or legs, to hold the posture for a longer duration. The nerves at the end of the fingertips are affected, when you do so, leading to a deep and calming effect on the mind and body as well. Mudras can also release the stress in beginners.

Bandha

There are three main bandhas, that you will learn in Yin Yoga. You have to use the subtle energies of the bandhas in Yin Yoga. Bandhas can help you with breath retention, which is directly related to the holding of the postures for a long time. They can also help you to stay calm and composed during the Yin Yoga practice.
